Traditional Festivals

 

In each Prefecture, there are many types of festivals. The five famous festivals are...

 

Sapporo Snow Festival
in Hokkaido



Every year on February, beautiful, unique, and fantastic snow carvings show in Sapporo city. Those are copied perfectly.
This year many foreign countries entried to a competition: Canada, China, Korea, Australia, America, and so on.

Nebuta Festival in Aomori

Those giant dolls are made by paper and bamboo. At first make shapes of dolls, then paste papers and paint them. I think those are the biggest arts in Japan... You can compare with people who are pushing carriage. How big it is!

Kanto Festival in Akita

Those look like lightened trees. One people will carry it and does some performances such as hold it without using hands. People need professional skills to do it.

Gion Festival in Kyoto

This festival also has big scale as like as other ones besides it's very beautiful and historical. Every items and costumes are wonderful!

Awa Odori in Tokushima

This dance is very unique but famous in Japan. Both hands up, keep your hip a little bit lower, and just wave your hands backward and forward.
